Gardens & Forests:
Exhibition at BARBAR, Athens, Georgia
November 18 - December 11, 2021
These paintings are windows into a safe and quiet world. They invite us to place our attention on the everyday actions of a rabbit, a woodpecker, or a hummingbird, as they move through and enliven their habitats, turning forests and gardens into homes and sanctuaries. These protagonists guide us, as viewers, to slow our pace and see meaning and beauty in the landscape. A hummingbird hovers and a woodpecker pecks. A rabbit hops out of a garden bed. A Northern Flicker waits out a rainy spell, nodding to a misty landscape of vines and bamboo. Fog shrouds the forested bank of a lake in winter. An owl pays little notice as a mixed flock of Blue Jays and other small birds tease him. The world keeps changing and keeps spinning, but instead of getting dizzy, we pause and look and enjoy, and take things in, one little thing at a time.
